Dog & Cat Dental Health

Periodontal disease is painful, progressive, and often hidden

Bad breath in dogs and cats is often the first sign that something is wrong below the gumline. Most dogs and cats over the age of three have periodontal disease. It is rare for them to exhibit symptoms noticeable to us humans, but this is a painful, progressive disease. Left untreated, tooth and gum issues can affect more than your pet’s mouth and may damage the kidneys, heart, and liver.

At Dogwood Animal Clinic, we can both treat AND prevent periodontal disease!

With our fully equipped dental suite, we can clean your pet's teeth thoroughly, take dental radiographs to see what's happening below the surface, and remove teeth when necessary. As always, our fear-free certified team keeps your pet calm and cared for every step of the way.

Dental Cleaning Pricing

Your pet’s exam determines the care they need

Every dental cleaning begins with a full veterinary exam to evaluate the overall health of your pet. An exam of your pet’s teeth and gums is done at this time and can help us predict what to expect during and after the procedure. However, a complete oral exam cannot be done until we have your pet safely under anesthesia, at which point we can closely examine each individual tooth. Pricing is based on your pet’s individual dental needs.

How to Book

Start with a dental consultation

A $95 dental consultation is required before scheduling your pet’s dental cleaning. At this visit, our veterinarian will give your pet a full head-to-tail exam, including an oral exam, to see what care they need and make sure they’re fit for the procedure. We’ll also answer any questions you have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental cleaning questions, answered

If your question isn't answered here, give us a call at (512) 255-2547.

How much does a dog or cat dental cleaning cost?

Through December 23, a dental cleaning with extractions is $716.24, and a preventive cleaning with no extractions is $561.24. Both include pre-anesthetic blood work. Which one your pet needs is determined by your veterinarian during the $95 dental consultation, which is required first and billed separately. Payment plans are available through Cherry Pay.

What are the signs of dental disease in dogs and cats?

Bad breath is often the first sign. Others include red or swollen gums, tartar buildup, drooling, pawing at the mouth, and trouble chewing. Many pets show no obvious signs at all, which is why a veterinary exam is so important.

Why does my pet need a consultation before a dental cleaning?

The consultation includes a full head-to-tail exam, including an oral exam, so our veterinarian can see what care your pet needs and make sure they’re fit for the procedure.

Why do dental cleanings require anesthesia?

Anesthesia allows us to clean your pet's teeth thoroughly, take dental radiographs, and treat problems safely and without stress or pain. Pre-anesthetic blood work, included in your pet’s dental cleaning price, helps make sure your pet is fit for the procedure.

When does the dental special end?

The special runs through December 23. Dental cleanings must be completed by that date to receive special pricing.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. We accept payment plans through Cherry Pay, so you can spread the cost of your pet’s dental care into manageable payments.

Is a low-cost dental cleaning safe for my dog or cat?

Yes. Special pricing doesn’t change the quality of care. Every cleaning includes pre-anesthetic blood work and is performed under anesthesia in our fully equipped dental suite by our fear-free certified team.
